2 adjustment tool 6 tip protecto
3 ground lead with crocodile clip 7 identification tags
4 ground bayonet
6. Operating instructions
• Connect the BNC connector to the oscillator (not incl.). Refer to the user manual of the
oscilloscope for the correct port and operation settings.
• Make sure the probe is properly calibrated. Refer to §6 Calibration below.
• When possible, disconnect power to the circuit under test and connect the crocodile clip
to ground or common (usually the chassis) or use the ground bayonet [4] (only fits
over the standard tip).
Note: Always use the shortest possible ground lead! Excessive ground lead length
introduces unwanted inductance and can alter the displayed signal, as well as reduces
the scope's effective bandwidth (ground lead acts like a low pass filter).
• Depending on the measured signal, use the standard tip, the retractable hook tip [1] or
the IC-tip [5]. When wires are close together, place the tip protector [6] over the
standard tip to avoid short circuit.
• When using multiple probes on the same circuit board, clip the identification tags [7]
over the probe cable, one at the side of the BNC connector and the other near the
probe, to easily identify the signals.
• When possible, switch off power to the circuit under test prior to removing the probe.
7. Calibration
• In order to obtain the correct division ratio with each oscilloscope, the attenuation
network needs to be adjusted. To compensate the probe to your oscilloscope, apply a
1kHz square wave to the probe tip, or connect to the cal socket on the oscilloscope to
display a few cycles of the waveform (refer to the illustrations on page 2 of this
manual).
• Adjust the trimmer located in the BNC connector for a flat-topped square wave.
